Additional combatants for the Ecclesiasty

On the BoS today are some Cawdor Gangers ("My answer is in my sword, thou bloodier Villian !")

This is ganger with an Anvil hooded head and an Anvil priest body with a Cawdor head and plastic DKK Flamer.  S'kinda where it's gonna go when the Iggies figure out that they cannot actually cover the entire outside perimeter of Xyphonica in depth and reluctantly let the Frateris Militia cover some of the lines.

Two Anvil preists.  Because someone has to deliver some direcction here, otherwise there'd be chaos.  (lack of organisation and control type chaos, not tentacles and too many teeth chaos).

And just in case you weren't aware, Simon over at Fort Wargame is doing a 24hr paintathon so he gets to paint stuff and raise funds for charity as well.

Techno Barbarian Crusader

He's got the war club and shield from a Saurian which was a free give away model from Banbury GW a while ago.  Those feathers are a plant from someone's scenic base.  And the Crusader helm with the eye peice is resin, so it's an aftermarket peice from somewhere.  The backpack is a white metal pig iron item.

...And all becuase if anywhere needs random heavily armoured people of unknown disposition with power weapons and shields, it's Devos IV.

Neverness' Inquisitorial Conclave 2024 - St Nezuko's Witch Hunters jump the gun.

A long time on an Agi-world far, far away, there was a young peasant girl named Nezuko.  Her family, with the exception of her brother, were wiped out in a deamonic incursion.  She was posessed.  With the assistance of her surviving sibling, she resisted posession and embarked on a long and difficult quest to exorsize the deamon.
The deamon was excorsized and banished and Nezuko was free from it, her humanity was restored.  Obviously the only way one can remove deamonic posession from one's self is to be a witch, so she was subsequently granted the emperor's mercy by being burned alive. Just to make sure.
Her story is an inspiration to Witch Hunters throughout the Dinorwic Sector.  She is the patron saint of these fellows, whose helmets, you'll have noticed, follow a traditional witch huntery pattern.  They are the shock troops of their sect.
They are armoured, which contributes to their logenvity in combat situations, they are well armed and they manage to pack a Heavy Stubber and a Missile Launcher into the selection of tools at their disposal.
And of course the banner of St Nezuko as a reminder that redemption is possible even for the previsouly posessed.  These people are very mindful: they live in the present and are regular found meditating.
They have arrived on Devos IV in response to Bishop Popper's indescriminate call for more Ecclestical military might to butress his possible post war position.  However, like a lot of the frateris militia elements arriving dirtside, they have come with their own agenda.
These witch hunters have aligned themselves with a lone Astartes known locally as the White Knight.  They have adopted the colours from his coat of arms for their pultrons, signifying their allegance.  So they definately do not answer to Bishop Popper.
So whilst they are unlikely to receive any official assistance from the higher level of the Church; they are invariably popular with the rank and file of the Tree of Man when they meet them on the ground.  Also their appearance and bearing as a military unit accord them a degree of respect from the soldiers of 72AG that frateris militia do not usually get.
Shun the mutant, Kill the heretic, Burn the witch.

Arcoflagellants.

These arcoflagellants were stuck together on a child free break two years ago.  When Neverness announced this years Inquisitorial Conclave, I thought that this would be a great unit to paint up in case I didn't finish the team of baddies.  So I was able to submit these as well.
You might recall that there are already a team of monster hunters on Devos IV with five arcoflagellants already.  Those poor individuals have been arcoflagellants for some time and show signs of having been rebuilt more than once.  They are a patchwork of the people they used to be and whatever the medicae or mechanicus had to hand.
These ten are different, whilst each is different to the other, they are clearly the product of the same place and time.

But where did they come from ?  What heinous crime deserved such a fate ? And how and why did these come to Devos IV ?
When the Inquisition takes control of a place, some people are rounded up for questioning.  Some are rounded up and sentanced to death more or less immediately, as soon as can be practically managed.  Those with a lesser amount of guilt (but still some share of the guilt, even if that's only failing to turn ones self in, or condemn what ever it was that was going on which attracted the Inquisition's attention in the first place.) but these people would usually have some sort of leadership role, perhaps first line management, factory charge hands and so on.
Those lower down the social and organisational pecking order are likely to become servitors.  These should-have-known-betters are surgically altered into killing machines and then kept docile through drugs and then their bodies and nervous systems flooded with rage inducing pain negating drugs and let loose.  All the while, despite some very careful and highly specialised lobotomy, great care is taken so that some part of the guilty persons conscience remains aware of their condition and what is happening to them - this is the punishment.
After the liberation of Randstadd, the air beachead which saw the first Imperial forces on continental Benq, the civilian population who remained in the city were rounded up and processed.  All were shipped off world and taken to Dinnterra Minor for screening.  Some were blessed with the chance to redeem their crimes against the God Emperor of all Mankind when they were mercifully sentenced to become arcoflagellants.
Between four and half and five thousand souls were consigned to Dinterra Minor.  There is a chance that amongst the thousands of arcoflagellants who leave the House of Questions to further the aims of the church, some of those who were apprehended on Devos IV may have found their way back there as arcoflagellants.
Bishop Popper is man nervous of all the other factions of the Imperium around him and their burgeoning military power.  He invited the Adeptus Sororitas to give his war fighting credentials a boost only to find that the Canoness has no intention of listening to him whatsoever.  So he has indented for as many of these arcoflagellants as he can get.
And arcoflagellants can by law only be activated by a priest.  What could possibly go wrong ?

Neverness' Inquisitorial Conclave 2023

As you may know, the first day of September each year is when Neverness displays the fruits of the labours of those who had committed, however casually, to producing something for his annual inquisitorial conclave.  So this should follow on from that.

First up, as the most astute of you will have already noticed, these are not in the mold of your usual inquisitorial warband.  They might once have been, but no longer, they are now given over to the service of the ruinous powers.  Ladies and Gentlemen, the baddies:

The minis here are nearly finished.  I only intend to fill in a few more details on some of them, the deamogog's walking stick, the (un)book carried by one of the acolytes and so on.  They are in the same state of painting as the picts I submitted to Neverness.

Half of August had passed and then we were off on another family holiday, so unfinished it is.  I can do more when we get home (by the time this is published) but not until then.

But yes, more baddies for Devos IV.  There are more of the other sort of beligerants as well, but more of them in a few post's time.  There's more of everything, it seems.  Which is a shame as I was trying to stop.

Weirdos and misfits, the overlooked and poorly educated.  The angry and dispossessed.  Those who cannot any representation in mainstream Imperial life.  All easy pickings for the persuasive voices telling them that it's not their fault, they are not the one's to blame, they are being overlooked and their ways overtaken by disrespectful interlopers.

As you might surmise, the other members of the Dark Commune will form the nuclei of further cells.

But this is a start.  Chaos undivided sticking it's nose in.  Khorne and Slannesh might notice.

The central character here is the demagogue: she is part of a select coven hunted by the OH.  She is flanked here by two close combat bodyguards with ceremonial flensing knives from the Grox herder enclaves of the northern parire: they've brought their traditional tribal tools to use as weapons in their new religion.  There's also her principal muscle, Xondar, who as you tell from his stature, was once even a giant amongst Space Marines.  Anyway, he's long turned to the ruinous powers and sometimes manages to cause a plague zombie or two to come into being, but he has no real control over this and it's not something to rely on. He has specifically embraced 'death' as a thing, rather than a more specific power.  This could be a mere preference, or perhaps he doesn't really get the whole 'Chaos' thing ? regardless, his chosen weapon, tool, totem and eating utensil is a giant version of the spades used by the grave diggers of the Imperial Necropolis in Xyphonica.  There are three more cultists with a variety of weapons, including Xondar's bolter, which he can no long use, because plot armour.  The last member of this team is Sav.  She is a chaos aligned astropath.  It is likely that the five members of the coven are using her to attract warp entities to Devos IV.

Neverness' Inquisitorial Conclave 2023

It's that time of year when this sort of bollox starts up again https://nevernesshobby.blogspot.com/2023/08/inquisitional-conclave-2023-kick-off.html?m=0

To be followed by SepTANKber, Zomtober and Dredcecmber or whatever.  Probably a good way to maintain hobby focus.

Well, I've probably got enough =I= warbands for the time being, perhaps it's time to throw in some obviously not the inquisition warbands into the pot.

We'll see how I get on.

Amt für genetische Reinheit

Col Nierra is a commander in an organisation unknown outside of the DKK.  The Bureau of Genetic Purity (AGR) is a product of Krieg’s experiments producing humans for the Imperial war machine.  Occasionally there emerges a genetic mutation which results in the individual becoming a ravening beast.  Not in a good way.   Where the curse of the Wulfen does not interfere with the canix helix carrier’s decision making ability (ie which side he is on) the fault in the Kreigers produces an indiscriminate monster (“Strigoi”) which attacks the nearest target. The AGR recruits experienced quartermasters; the quartermasters of DKK armies keep track of the health of all the soldiers he is responsible for; so they experienced in managing clinical healthcare.   This gives AGR officers obvious advantages when it comes to screening any cohort for signs of mutation.

Most DKK Soldiers do not know who these AGR officers are, but are conscious that these people make their own quartermasters twitchy.  And of course the AGR represents another strand of their ethnic shame; so the there is no likelihood of anyone outside of the DKK finding out who they are.

They are not in the business of exterminating or decimating units.  They are hunting for individuals in whom this dangerous mutation has manifest.  So they have powers of investigation, seizure of evidence and arrest and/or execution without trial of individuals.

In game terms, a Colonel of the AGR would use the profile of the Lord Inquisitor.

Col Nierra in particular is wily old fox with nearly a century of experience on the battlefield and on the hunt for the mutant.  He has learned to pre-empt what it likely to happen and developed ways of getting where he needs to be by the most expedient means.

He is also largely cybernetic, which makes him extremely tough and hard to kill.  And also slow.

He has an Initiative of 5, which also covers his immediate retinue.  He also benefits from the Scout, Move Through Cover, Slow and Purposeful and I’ll be Back USRs.  All except I’ll be Back extend to any unit he joins.

A AGR Officer has a retinue the same as a Platoon Command Squad.  These are generally veterans drawn from the remnants of DKK units.  Col Nierra always refers to his veteran bodyguards as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. He has never explained this to everyone. BGP soldiers are viewed as taciturn and serious by other DKK soldiers.

1st Lt Unkatherin Kershin was formerly a platoon commander in the Necromundia 8th (“the Spiders”) Col Nierra once found himself witness to her insight and ability to disengage. He recruited her (how ? Who knows) and has managed to retain her services by having her trained as a pilot for Valkyrie class airframes and STAMPs (Small Tactical Airel Mobility Platforms – Col Nierra has managed to secure one of these for his team on Devos IV). She is loyal to Col Nierra and believes Starshy Kapitan Stravar to be a dick head. But like her DKK colleagues, she doesn’t say much.
The last member of his team is a locally recruited Vostroyan Officer, Kynaz Ivan Stavinski Stravar, who was given to the DKK as a liaison offer to distance him from a fellow officer Abdul Abulbul Amir, with whom he did not see eye to eye. He has ‘remodelled’ his uniform to be more flattering on the grounds that he now has an important liaison function. Undoubtedly courageous, he’s not over intellectual and despite appreciating the peril involved in Col Nierra’s work, he has no idea how deep the shit he’s in is. Blissfully unaware he’s trying to figure out how to get Lt Kershin into bed without getting (another) black eye. Or worse. But he is persuasive and does get the team into places and obtains resources they would struggle to get without his diplomatic savioure faire.

Ordo Monstrum Warband.

'coz when you're hunting monsters in the 41st Millenium, you need friends.
